In 2011, about a year into learning to paint, I had the lucky early opportunity to do a solo show with a roving curatorial project then active in Providence, RK Projects, run by Sam Keller & Tabitha Piseno. What began initially as a release event for the sixteenth issue of my drawing zine Ospreys, which Sam & Tabitha produced for the show as a series of sixteen 11"x17" two-color, single-sided offset prints, evolved here into a full-blown show. In retrospect, this show is the demarcation point where painting took over as the central focus of my studio.
Included were the first two sets of glyphs, sixteen india ink drawings that were reproduced in the zine, the zine itself, a series of daily life photos, a couple of huge wall drawings, and what was at the time my only(!) completed painting. In keeping with the "absolutely psychotic effort spent for the benefit of almost no one" vibe that was strongly pervasive throughout town at the time, this pretty sprawling, heavily-invested show was only open for a week(?!). A single-band gig took place in the space every night it was open, other than the opening and the closing. The acts were Mark Lord, Lauren Pakradooni / Sakiko Mori duo, Chris Mulligan (DJ), Valise, and Clear Leader.
The space where this was held on Westminster Street has been vacant since, and afaik, the wall drawings stayed visible through the windows these past nine years.
